At the Old Schoolhouse (Rounder CD 0260) Simply one of the best bluegrass albums ever. If you don't have it, get it. Recorded live on February 20, 1988 at the old schoolhouse (now Community Center) in Lucketts VA, this recording captures the band's farewell performance as a full-time touring band. "A dozen or so years is a very short time in which to become one of the all-time great bluegrass bands, but that's exactly what The Johnson Mountain Boys accomplished. At a time when the force of tradition was ebbing in bluegrass music, The Johnson Mountain Boys took that tradition, ameliorated it, revitalized it, and made it their own. They brought to their music unique creativity, dynamism and dedication. They went out at the top of their form, and at the top of their profession." ~ from the liner notes by Bill Vernon See the complete track listing below: 01 Intro/Black Mountain Blues 02 Let the Whole World Talk 03 Long Journey Home 04 Bluest Man in Town 05 John Henry, the Steel Driving Man 06 Weathered Gray Stone 07 Unwanted Love 08 Ricestrow 09 Waltz Across Texas 10 Five Speed 11 Dream of a Miner's Child 12 Georgia Stomp 13 Sweetest Gift 14 I've Found a Hiding Place 15 With Body and Soul 16 Orange Blossom Special 17 Get Down On Your Knees and Pray 18 Going to Georgia 19 Now Just Suppose 20 Don't You Call My Name 21 Do You Call That Religion 22 Daniel Prayed 23 Wake Up Susan |
